HOW DID WE FIND OUT ABOUT MUSHROOMS?
Have you ever wondered where wizard’s get their magic?! Ok, we're joking about the wizard thing, but we're not joking about the power of mushrooms. When we started our mushroom journey into the fungi universe, we were just like everyone else, we thought "what is this hocus pocus mumbo jumbo?!". It kept popping up in the things we were listening/watching, from prominent media gurus like Tim Ferris (4 hour work week guy), Joe Rogan (comedian and podcaster), and general health expert Daren Olien (author of SuperLife, and in the Down to Earth documentary with Zac Effron). Eventually, we wanted to know what all the fuss was about, so, with a healthy dose of scepticism we took a leap of faith and our fungi journey began.

EVIDENCE BEHIND MUSHROOMS?
Anyone that really gets into the nitty gritty of fungi will know about Paul Stamets, an American mycologist (mushroom scientist/researcher). He has published numerous research manuscripts in peer reviewed journals, and has consistently provided research supporting the benefits of different types of mushrooms. Not to labour the point too much, but these journals are extremely difficult to get published in… like, reeeally hard!! (They even named a character after him in Star Trek Discovery!) Encouragingly, modern science is catching up and fungi research is growing.
WHAT DID MERLIN HOPE TO GET OUT OF MUSHROOMS? (ANECDOTES)
In the beginning, Merlin's Mushrooms was testing for better cognition (lion's mane), more energy (cordyceps), and general health/immune system (turkey tail and cordyceps).
Our core approach, which we still do, has been to add 1/2 a teaspoon of a mushroom blend (contains different types) every morning into our coffee or smoothie to cover our bases.
Early on, we noticed the effects more acutely, as is normal when you're actively paying attention to a new supplement you're taking.
Years later, we notice it a bit more subtly, like if you don't go to the gym and you feel a bit rubbish. If we miss a day, because life got busy, we tend to notice a change in our mood or energy.
Consistency is the key, don't take bigger doses but to take it regularly because it's about maintenance of the body.
